Providence was well represented at the District Conference:

Left, DG Kris David presents the District Rotaract/Interact Significant Achievement Award to Yarisa Diaz, president, accepting for the club. Right, First Gentleman Bill David introduced our Pete Brock to deliver a rousing keynote speech.

And two of our members received district awards (presented at the club by DG Kris):

Left, Jim Gilcreast for 42 years of perfect attendance. Right, PP Stanley Sorrentino for 50 years as a member.
Mayor Elorza Promises A Vibrant and Resilient Providence
Providence Mayor Jorge Elorza gave an overview of his 15 months in office. His priorities include governing with the vision of resurgence, growth and fiscal responsibility to create a vibrant and resilient city.

While he acknowledges the fiscal crisis that must be faced (a 5-year fiscal outlook shows that Providence faces an $85 million deficit by 2021 if significant fiscal changes are not implemented), there are many changes in the way city departments work that can have major positive impact for residents.

He is committed to completely changing the way the city does business. The Mayor shared his view that fiscal challenges are not an excuse for poor city services. The culture of “you gotta know a guy” to get something done in Providence has been replaced by a commitment to responsive city services. Five hundred employees have had comprehensive customer service training and a backlog of 3000 requests for city services has been cleared. The new policy for requests is a call back within three days – if not, all citizens, “know a guy,” - call the Mayor’s office!
Happy Bucks
