The order of the day was celebration!
President Mike Kelly introduced Liz Messier as MC for the installation of Anthony Hollingshead as President of the Providence Rotary Club for the 2016-17 year.
After the salute to the flag, Barbara Harris invited all of us to think deeply about what is really important “at the end of the day”, and Holly Applegate and Liz Messier led us in singing America the Beautiful.
PDG Kris David installed members elected as Directors for a term ending in 2018: Robert Black, Bill David, Pat Germani, Lisa Hill and Stephen Hug; they join Mary Brewster, George Burman, Bintou Chatterton Jim Gilcreast and Avram Cohen on the Board.
After the installation it was noted that Richard Kaplan had submitted his resignation as Club Treasurer after many years of competent and faithful service which all members in attendance recognized with a long and loud standing ovation.
Liz Messier then announced the slate of officers for the coming year: President-elect Don Saracen, First VP Liz Messier, Second VP John McGinn, Secretary Art Norwalk, Ass’t Treasurer Peter Loescher and Sgt-at-Arms Parker Smith. Kris David again performed the installation.
Following the installation of officers, Anthony Hollingshead was installed by Kris David as President of the Providence Rotary Club for the 2016-2017 year.
In brief remarks President Anthony thanked many for their efforts over the past year and in making this celebration possible. Rotary presents us with a tremendous opportunity for service, and he expressed his eagerness to get going on the work ahead.
The Club has assembled a strong team of leaders, and he called on each of us to do his or her part. Looking back over his experience in Rotary, he offered special thanks to late Rotarian Robert Black Sr. who urged him to join, and to Mrs. Black who was in attendance.
