ANNOUNCEMENTS, Etc.

June 27 installation of President Anthony Hollingshead begins with champagne reception at 11:30.

No meeting week of July 4. Happy Birthday USA!

Inspiration: Outgoing First Lady and Honorary Member Kathy Kelly thanked Rotarians for their fellowship and the opportunity to serve our brothers and sisters in the Greater Providence Area. That we are prosperous enables us to give our material and physical wealth. That we are free enables us to work together to achieve amazing successes. And that we are dedicated brings us together.

Paul Segal has been appointed to the Providence Rotary Charities Foundation.

With Board approval, Don Saracen is now president elect, and Liz Messier is first Vice President.

District Governor Kris presented a citation to Christy Clausen from President Ravi of RI for our Interact Club’s service projects over the past year and announced that the club would receive $1500 from the District Grants subcommittee for our Rotary Reads program.

President Mike recognized Cy Wyche for his distinguished service in WW II and we all shared a cake for his 92nd birthday!!

President Mike installed John Meara as a new member of our Club and then recognized Mary Brewster as a Paul Harris Fellow and thanked her for her donation. He thanked Jerry Cannon for his wise guidance, counsel and structure over this past year and for his many distinguished years of service to our club.

Saturday was work day at Harry Kizirian Elementary School as Rotarians and Interactors pulled off peeling paint and primed doors to receive new colors.

"An experience I will cherish for the rest of my life"
Outgoing President Mike described how the recent engine failure of his plane has led him to change his ways and focus on the most important things in life.  He thanked the club officers and board members for their dedicated service over the past year.

He is disappointed that we were unable to implement PayPal, but has another system in mind, and that progress is so slow in dealing with Roger Williams Park and the Rotary Memorial.

He is pleased that there has been no wasteful spending and there is money in the bank and the budget is balanced. We have 100 members and Pat Germani continues to lead our great membership team.

  • Sharon Garland has organized members focusing on raising money to meet current and future needs of the club.
  • George Burman resurrected the Street Painting Festival and made it a success and Geoff continues to fine tune the successful Paint Off event.
  • Liz Messier continues our fund raisers with the Barker Playhouse and does so much more as a member of the officer team.
  • He thanked Jan Feyler for being Mother Superior of the club’s foundation and Randy Dittmar for his tremendous work ethic and for accomplishing so much for the club, often operating in the background.
  • Peter Loescher has remarkable collection abilities and Mike thanked him for stepping into the treasurer responsibilities this year.
  • John McGinn’s continued advice and counsel has been very meaningful.
  • Don Saracen has brought us great programs this year and his ability to read people and decipher complex problems is invaluable.
  • He thanked Mary Brewster for her generosity to the Rotary International Foundation, her wisdom at board meetings and working with Art Norwalk on the Harry KiIrian School project, bringing pride to the children, faculty, the neighborhood and our club.
  • Suzanne Cannon has stepped up to fill the gap to administer the club and thanked Bill DiBiasio and George Burman for their work on the Roger Williams Park memorial.
  • Walt Adamowicz gets it done--the holiday party, the fishing derby and the nominating committee, all with excellence and without fanfare.
  • Finally, he thanked Barry Fain for asking him to consider going into the chairs to become club president, which “has made me a better person and has been a wonderful and rewarding experience that I will cherish for the rest of my life.”
