INSPIRATION

Walter Cotter opened the meeting with let us pray silently together, each one of us, according to our individual beliefs.  Let us offer thanks for our food, blessings for one another.  Let us be a source of hope for those in need, and contentment for those who are lonely.  Let us give gratitude for our opportunity to serve Rotary.  Let the feelings of love, kindness, and a well-directed, yet gentle spirit always be reflected in our actions.

PP Paul Borelli led us in a rousing holiday song.

Score's advising Small Business

Walter Cotter introduced Dave Herst of SCORE formerly called Service Corps of Retired Executives.  Score was formerly comprised of retired executives. Working executives have joined the group which provides consultative services to corporations.  Working executives now represent over 50%.

Dave has had a wide variety of experiences in the business world.  Small businesses represent 99.7% of all US employers, representing 47% of private sector payroll.  Dave reminded us that all major corporations started as small businesses.  He decided to change his life when his daughter was two years old and they were living in Manhattan.  Dave wanted to provide a better life for her and decided to get away from the hubbub and move to Greater Boston where his partner was.  They are still partners after 44 years.  Dave started to volunteer for SCORE 12 years ago and is looking for more volunteers to join the organization.  The skill most needed is common sense.  Businesses need advice on closing, staying open, accounting, tax, building the business, bankruptcy, etc..

Contact Dave if interested.
