INSPIRATION
Rob Black read a favorite poem of his grandfather’s from a 1951 Newsletter of the Erie, Pennsylvania Rotary Club entitled "Ode To A Painted Fanny" which highlighted the dignity of his grandfather.
ANNOUNCEMENTS, Etc.
Ann Black, wife of club administrator Rob Black, was inducted into membership. Ann spoke of their family connections to Rotary and expressed her enthusiasm to participate.
Bill DiBiasio said shelter boxes are not being furnished for Hurricane Harvey relief, but hundreds of mini - tents have been supplied and fundraising will be needed as inventory is being used up.
Kris David reported on the Oct. 14 Street Painting Festival and said one major need is to get more music groups committed.
Bob Murphy advised the annual Christmas Holiday Party with San Miguel will be on Dec.4. Bob will handle all liaison with San Miguel and will solicit membership help on gift selection.
On the wellness front, Ken Conde is on the mend from double knee replacement.

BUILDING CHARACTER THROUGH SPORTS
Chuck Wilson spoke on the non- profit organization he heads - Even Field. Mr. Wilson has 37 years of experience at various venues in sports broadcasting including a sports talk show on WPRO in Rhode Island from 1981 to 1991. He was with ESPN Radio from 1991 to 2007.
The Even Field program aims to develop character, integrity and ethical leadership in youth through participation in sports, aided by the mentorship of amateur and professional athletes. Rotary member Pete Brock is on the board of Even Field and exemplifies the type of participant that makes the program successful.
