Bob Murphy read a quote from the great 20th Century Philosopher Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel - "When I was young I used to admire intelligent people; as I grow older I admire kind people."
An induction ceremony was held to welcome two new members to the club - Amanda Parent (center) and Barbara Kenerson (right).
Amanda told us she was raised in Rhode Island and recently moved back. She is particularly interested in all aspects of environmental protection issues.
Barbara recently retired from a 36 year career as a stockbroker and prior to that was a teacher of gifted students.
Visitor Lisa Furtado, president of the Pawtucket Rotary Club invited Providence Rotarians to attend their 100th Anniversary to be held on Thursday, October 3rd at 5:30 at The Slater Mill. Tickets are 55$ or 2 for 100$. Proceeds will be used to finance concrete chess boards in a Pawtucket Park and to hold an annual Rotary Chess Tournament.
PP Art Norwalk had several announcements pertaining to the club's efforts to aid the Kizirian School - at our Monday August 26 meeting we will assemble baskets of supplies purchased by the club's charitable foundation, to be delivered to the teachers at the School on Thursday, August 29th, for which volunteers are needed. On Tuesday August 27th volunteers will help serve a back to school barbeque dinner at the school from 6 to 8 pm.
Among the first foundation grants to assist the School is the purchase of My Math materials for the 4th grade ESL Program.

Steve Brosnihan, Resident Cartoonist at Hasbro Children’s Hospital, spoke on the "Magic Minute Good Night Lights" program that he instituted and which has since received worldwide recognition.

The program began in 2010 when Steve wanted to say good night to a patient who was being discharged so he told the boy to look out his window toward Davol Square at 8:30 PM and he would flash his bike light to him. He then expanded this idea to the level that now 40 entities flash their lights towards the Hasbro windows every evening to say good night to all the children - included are many first responders and various businesses and institutions. The idea is now being copied around the country.
