President Paul thanked all the volunteers from the past Sunday's Spooky World fundraiser that took in $1500 in profit thanks to facility and equipment donations from Mike Friedman and Pres. Paul. Great event and the kids, as well as the volunteers, had a blast!!
Reminder of the Paul Harris Dinner on 11/13 - get in touch with Mike Kelly - looks like we have 13 people going and it should be more!
The club gave a rousing rendition of Happy Birthday to Maury Ryan and Rev. Barlow (Reporter’s note: my dad leaned over and said - "whew, they forgot about me").
Paul Segal spoke of his recent two week trip to Germany- resulting from the Group Study Exchange and their wish to reciprocate the hospitality. He also said the beer was wonderful.
Ben Longtin is heading up the P Bruins night on 11/7- $7 charge. The flier will be sent out to everyone and MONDAY 11/3 is the last day to sign up.
Laura Stiles was thrilled with the RAD held at Providence Flatbread Co. It was a great night with 25 people including many guests - keep them coming!
District Governor Valerie Perry, a native of East Providence, joined Rotary to meet more men. Say What?? Having gotten everyone’s attention, she explained that she’d been active in groups for business women and felt she needed to network more with men and women.
As a new member she was confused by the many acronyms – DGN, DGE, ADG, RI, etc. – but determined to build her understanding by going to a District Conference. This is where her Rotary Moment happened. Listening to the Rotary Youth Exchange kids who were so excited about the experiences they had while here and spoke beautifully about their stay.
Valerie wanted to be a part of this group, of this wonderful exchange, and made an effort to get to any District event that came up. She was president of her club for 3 years, before Charlie Murphy asked her to be his Administrative Assistant - "we all know who the real DG is!"
She believes this year’s Rotary International theme "Light up Rotary" means many things including that it’s better to light a single candle than sit in the darkness. DG Valerie would like to focus on retention and engagement, promote District events, and recommended Rotary Leadership Institute sessions for both new and long-time members.

The Rotary Zone 24 & 32 meeting brought Governors, Governor-elects and nominees from five countries together in Toronto. We were honored and excited to meet Rotary International President-elect K.R. “Ravi” Ravindran, of the Rotary Club of Colombo, Western Province, Sri Lanka. His top priority will be to increase membership, focusing on the younger generation and experimenting with several growth strategies.
The 2015 Zone Institute, “Get Fired Up For Rotary” will be held right here in Providence from September 21- 27.
