You reap what you sow; as in most everything in life, the amount of effort determines the level of success. As Ghandi said, “Satisfaction lies in the effort, not in the attainment.”

Check out Providence’s newest hospital. You may recall it as the Rhode Island Convention Center, but it’s been temporarily transformed into a 600-bed standby hospital that will only be used if other hospitals become overcrowded due to the pandemic. We’ll take a video tour at our alternate hour meeting Thursday, August 27, at 5:00 pm on Zoom. Past president John McGinn, who’s worked at the Convention Center for more than 20 years, will be our host.

August Birthdays
Wendy Marcus led us in wishing Happy birthday to Jim Gilcreast, George Babcock, Liz Messier, and Rochelle Carnevale.

HAPPY BUCKS
Anthony Hollingshead: Welcome to Abra! A happy buck for you!

Paul Segal: A happy buck for his wife, Roberta, who would like to say hello to speaker, Michael Rose!

Margaret Kane: $5 happy bucks and a hello to Roberta Segal!

GETTING CREATIVE WITH MASKS
Michael Rose, art historian, appraiser, and gallery manager at the Providence Art Club, told us about the club’s current creative face mask exhibit—Conceal / Reveal.  Art Club members were given a template for a faux face mask and were encouraged to create works of art in any style and / or medium. The masks are currently on exhibit in the windows of Dodge House and the club hopes they will enliven the streetscape and encourage mask wearing.
The Art Club is now working on Conceal / Reveal Part II, and is inviting members of the public to submit their own creative face masks. The deadline to submit masks is August 27 and you can learn more here.

The Art Club has held online exhibitions, virtual tours of exhibitions, and has produced online catalogues during the pandemic. The Isolation Creations Members Exhibition, which consists of 125 pieces, is now up at the Club. A virtual catalog and virtual tours are available. Roberta Segal even has a piece in the show! If you are comfortable, you can visit the Art Club in-person from 12pm-3pm on weekdays to view the exhibition.
