MEMORIAL DAY YESTERDAY AND TODAY:
THE AMERICAN SOLDIER IS
BETWEEN US AND DISASTER
Lieutenant General Reginald Centracchio, retired from the RI National Guard after 48 years of service, spoke of the history and current relevance of Memorial Day.
Gen. Centracchio recognized Cy Wyche for his service in WW II as a bombardier, and Cy acknowledged the tribute with a salute.
George Washington said ”If we don’t take care of our veterans, how can we expect others to take up arms?” Decoration Day, the forerunner of Memorial Day, started after the Civil War to honor the 602,000 soldiers who lost their lives on both sides of the conflict. Taps has been played at military funerals since then.
He brought us to the present day and its terrorist threats that the world is living with. We are at war with ISIS, Al Qaeda, Hamas, not Islam. He advised us to be aware of our surroundings at all times. If we see something, say something. The American soldier is between us and disaster. He stated that cyber terrorism can bring us to our knees.
The general is now a news analyst for Channel 12 and Fox News Providence, has his own band and plays with another.
