THANKSGIVING INSPIRATIONS
Ron Hoak shared that Blessings are everywhere. The definition of blessing is a beneficial thing for which one is grateful – something that brings wellbeing. He asked, “when was the last time you reflected upon what you are grateful for and what brings you wellbeing? Are you grateful for the love of your spouse, the wonderment of your children, a great meal or the ability to serve other than yourself? To everyone, Ron wishes a Happy Thanksgiving!

President Bryan shared some thoughts with us regarding how a visitor to our bountiful country might see it today – full of unease and unrest, not unlike other times in the history of our great country. As we head into a holiday season unlike any other, President Bryan concluded by saying we as Americans have a choice - we have the option to be sorry for what we can’t have or be grateful for the abundance we do have. He wishes all Rotarians a Happy Thanksgiving.

ANNOUNCEMENTS, Etc.
No meetings Dec 22 and 29 – meetings will be held on zoom until further notice.

The Good Works Committee is looking for additional volunteers to purchase gifts for several girls who live in Family Service of Rhode Island shelters. The range of items range from $20.00 to $100.00. If you purchase items online, have them shipped to Kris David at 112 Port Circle, Warwick, RI 02889. Kris will also arrange to pick up items or a donation as needed.

Think about putting together a group of Rotarians to adopt one girl on the list; volunteering to purchase one item on a girl’s wish list or participate by donating something so the committee can purchase unassigned items. Anyone who would like to volunteer or donate to this project should contact Kristine David at kd7950@gmail.com or 401-480-1419.

Holly mentioned our speakers next week will be from our own Literacy Committee. George Babcock and his team will be presenting the new literacy proposal approved by the board.

PROVIDENCE POLICE NAVIGATE
A CHALLENGING TIME
Our guest speaker, Colonel Hugh Clements, Chief of the Providence Police Department, began by saying “this is a challenging time – we are navigating through it one event at a time, trying to get things right with the situation before us.”

Clements explained that policing in Providence is local and that they strive to be part of the fabric of the community. Policing in a way that they believe the community wants.

“We listen and respond to the needs of the community - by going to community meetings, every day being in constant interaction with community leaders. The basic mission is to reduce crime, fear of crime and general disorder all while protecting constitutional and human rights.”

The Providence Police are laser focused on violent crime – gangs, human trafficking, gun, drug issues, assaults, theft and shootings. Although a continuing challenge, Providence’s award-winning police department is ahead of the curve and has the data to show that crime is going down.
