Don Saracen introduced guest speaker Kemi Sorinmade, a leadership coach who helps people in charge motivate the members of their teams to achieve superior results.
There are lots of ways in which leaders try to mold people into a team, but some are better than others.
Force/coercion does not work, in fact it is probably counter-productive.
Manipulating people is also less than ideal, and using one’s position as “boss” does not work.
We have all heard stories and perhaps experienced situations where a coach loses his or her team, or workers “quit” the boss.
Begging, cajoling, bartering or exchanging favors with people (you do this for me and I’ll do this for you) may win lukewarm support or an endorsement, but it never wins over hearts and minds.
But if you can win someone’s respect, if he or she trusts you, your intentions and your goals, then you are on the right track. People attract people. To be a leader, you must start with respect, and then add your own PASSION to the mix. Passion is a powerful force when it is directed to a VISION of a better tomorrow (where are we going), and a PURPOSE (why it is important to get there).
