NARROWS CENTER: ECONOMIC ENGINE
AND SOUL OF THE COMMUNITY
Steve Hug introduced his longtime friend, Patrick Norton, executive director of the Narrows Center for the Arts in Fall River. The organization was started over 20 years ago by a small volunteer group who had a vision for bringing superior performances and arts at affordable prices to the Fall River community.  With support from the community, they have moved to a 30,000 square foot building on the waterfront with space for performing arts, exhibitions and 10 artists’ studios.

Patrick shared his guiding principle that art can be an economic engine and good the soul of a community at the same time. Over 250,000 have participated in performances and programs with 80 % of individuals coming from outside of Fall River.

The organization believes deeply in giving back to the community by bringing arts and music programs into the Fall River public schools and advocating for increased funding for arts in the school budgets.

You can check out www.narrowscenter.org for event and exhibit information.

I am from
by Francesca Landi

I am from dishes
From books and blankets I am from the grey house near the beach
From cinnamon and vanilla
I’m from hydrangeas, tulips and roses
The Big Tree in front of my house long gone limbs I remember as if they were my own
I am from early Sunday dinner and Talent Factory dance
From Anthony and Stacy
I’m from loud and funny and from love
From “do well in school” and “be responsible”
And “don’t let the bedbugs bite”
I’m from Johnston and Narragansett
And Italy
Macaroni and meatballs
