INSPIRATION
Anthony Hollingshead quoted from Queen Elizabeth II’s 2016 Christmas Message: “But even with the inspiration of others, it’s understandable that we sometimes think the world’s problems are so big that we can do little to help. On our own, we cannot end wars or wipe out injustice, but the cumulative impact of thousands of small acts of goodness can be bigger than we imagine.”
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Pres. Steve reminded us (newsletter readers as well as meeting attendees) that the time is NOW to purchase tickets and plan to attend the Legends for Literacy Gala just a few weeks away on October 25. Buy them at the club website -
www.ProvidenceRotary.org – to support the Jane Babcock Childhood Literacy Initiative.
Margaret Kane is making progress toward recovery and hopes to come to a meeting on Zoom in a few weeks. Meantime she’s signed up as a Game Sponsor of the Gala. (If she can do it, …)
Don Saracen reported on new sponsors: Conference Sponsors - Center for Obstetrics & Gynecology and Amica Insurance;
Game Sponsors - Gene Carlino, Stevens Masonry and Margaret Kane.
With those additions, we have $54,000 in committed sponsorships towards a goal of $70,000.
Don also thanked the Literacy Committee for their hard work behind the scenes collaborating with school officials to select and purchase literacy teaching materials.
Kris David announced auction item donations from Cap Willey, Barry Fain, Anthony Landi and Herb Altman.
HAPPY BUCKS
- Anthony Landi had $5 for a business trip to Montana that didn’t sound awfully businesslike from his description.
- Anthony Hollingshead for a great trip to Rome and to thank guests Jonathan and Sam for their interest in the club.
- Pres. Steve congratulated Zoom attendee P. J. Fox for his work on his sister Joy’s campaign for Congress.
- Jim Gilcreast was happy so he kicked in a buck.
FELLOWSHIP
Kris David organized a fellowship event that got members talking to each other about past experiences and whatever else came to mind. It was a nice change of pace.
Rotary After Dark
About 30 Rotarians from several local clubs and the Rotary Club of Providence met at the Narragansett Brewery and India Point to shine the "Goodnight Lights" to the children at Hasbro Hospital.
