INSPIRATION
Jim Gilcreast shared a short poem by Ezra Benson. “If you really wanted to receive joy and happiness then serve others with all your heart, lift their burdens and your own burdens will be light.”

ANNOUNCEMENTS, Etc.
Anthony Hollingshead reported that the Summer Fun(d) has collected $800 [Update: now at $1,000]. He reminded us that donations are still being taken online at the club website. Anthony thanked Mary Brewster for spearheading this.

The club foundation has made its annual community grant awards totaling $40,400 to 24 local agencies. The list of recipients is HERE.

HAPPY BUCKS
Wendy Marcus
: $2 sad bucks for the passings of Congressman John Lewis (the conscience and soul of democracy) and Rev. C.T. Vivian (who taught us what a country’s journey should include).

Jim Gilcreast gave $1 happy buck for being happy.

Maxine Cohen gave $1 happy buck from an anniversary gift from her daughter through Zoom in celebration of her and Avram’s 50th anniversary.

Mary Brewster gave $5 happy bucks for a bike ride she took and remembering her childhood memories of bike riding with her friends.

Karen Mueller gave $10 happy buck for the birth of her granddaughter and namesake.

Margaret Kane gave $10 happy bucks for a story about the scattering of ashes on Mt. Chicoroa in The White Mountains of NH. Whose ashes were they, anyway?

CLUB ASSEMBLY
President Bryan Cook opened the Club Assembly.

Luis Lourenco started off by giving the Treasurer’s Report, noting that a profit is expected once last year’s report is completed, thanks to the club’s management fee from the gala. However a loss is expected for the current year due to pandemic issues.

Paul Segal noted that the foundation has given $41,500 to twenty-four agencies. There is about $10,000 unspent from the Literacy Initiative budget. Bryan will be meeting with the Foundation regarding grants for the upcoming year. He praised the Foundation board members for being good stewards.

Anthony H. provided a membership update, noting that seven new members were inducted last year while four people left the club. The net gain of three members compares favorably with clubs around the district and the country. Bryan Cook thanked Anthony for his work, and stated that quality is better than quantity.

Zoom is a good way to re-engage with members who can’t attend the meetings in person. Zoom will continue to be important. Meetings at the Marriott might be pushed back to the spring.

Jim Gilcreast wanted to know when we would have live meetings again. Rob Black will follow up with the Marriott on that. Bryan said the Board will talk about it later this week. He then asked if there were any concerns about in-person meetings. A number of members voiced their concerns, while others had no problem with restoration of our meetings. Bryan said the decision will be made based on the wellbeing of everyone.

Holly Applegate mentioned that there are many speakers set up for this fall.

Bryan ended the meeting by thanking all for their attendance today.
