Meeting Date: August 24, 2021

Reporter:  Bryan Cook

Jim Gilcreast led the pledge.

Randy Dittmar provided the inspiration and talked about how we should handle gifts given to us by others.   First, we should accept the gift which shows gratitude.  Next we should use the gift as this shows that it has value.  Finally, we should share the gift with others as this brings honor to the person who gave it.

Pres. Holly Applegate welcomed board member Herb Altman who is back in RI but joining us via zoom.
Gala Update—Arthur Robbins has been named honorary chair of the Legends for Literacy Gala and will receive a lifetime achievement award for his work in education and literacy.
Cap Willey and Margaret Kane have each agreed to be Division Champion level sponsors while Bob Morse and Burns & Cotter Insurance have joined as game level sponsors.
Plans are being made to have Gov. Dan McKee attend the Gala and possibly present one of the awards.
Mary Brewster announced that $1,600 has been collected so far for our school supply service project with several other commitments in the works.
Kris David gave an update on the Polio Eradication Initiative in light of the current events in Afghanistan.   Rotary teams are working with all actors to further the mission of polio eradication.   Even with the latest turmoil there has been only 1 case of polio in Afghanistan since last October.
