Inspiration by Paul Harris
(who looks a bit like Walter Cotter!):
Paul could think of no better inspiration than the story of Rotary and the Rotary Foundation itself. “When a man plants a sapling in the springtime, can he be sure it will grow into a tree?…When the first growth appears, he can begin to think of the shade.” Thank you to Bryan Cook and Holly Applegate for tending to the shade!

The Event:

Following heartfelt and humorous introductions by daughter Brecken Schneider and MC Don Saracen, President Holly began her remarks with thanks to the many friends and family members who have supported her Rotary journey. She gave particular credit to the seven women who preceded her as club presidents.

Holly recounted her most memorable volunteer experience -- traveling by mule to give polio and tetanus vaccinations to residents of remote areas in Guatemala in 1969 – foreshadowing her commitment to Rotary’s Polio Plus effort.

She said she’s looking forward to an active year including the Childhood Literacy Initiative, hands-on service through the Good Works committee and renewed fellowship through Rotary After Dark – all efforts with new leaders.

Holly’s message in closing: Let’s dream big and make things happen!
