SCOTT MacKAY BREAKS DOWN ELECTION 2018
In keeping with our post-election tradition, political analyst Scott MacKay stopped by to comment on the recent RI and national elections.
As to Rhode Island he noted that the Democrats did very well, winning all major offices and increasing their majority in the House of Representatives. There are also more women in the legislature and more Democrats from the Progressive wing, which could lead to some conflict among Democrats; some from the Conservative wing may not approve funding some Progressive proposals like free college education.
In the U.S. Senate race, Robert Flanders was beaten by a wide margin by Senator Sheldon Whitehouse. The Flanders campaign was underfunded, poorly advertised and hurt like all Republicans by affiliation with Trump, a factor which also hurt Mayor Fung in his unsuccessful race against Gov. Raimondo.
Mr. MacKay has been a reporter for many years on Rhode Island and national politics, previously for the Providence Journal and since 2009 for RINPR, now known as The People’s Radio.
