As this year comes to a close, I wanted to take the opportunity to thank everyone for your continued efforts and contributions to the Rotary Club of Providence. It is because of your engagement, outreach, and willingness to share ideas that help our club grow and bring us closer together. We are more vibrant and welcoming than ever, and I am so excited for our continued success in the new year.
This past year we lost several incredible members of our club.
Margaret Kane’s angel topper story as well as her mother’s turkey recipe always had us in stitches. We give tribute to her during “Happy Bucks” at each weekly meeting and miss her quick wit, humor, and service to our community.
And then there was Jim Gilcreast’s lighthearted remarks about his beloved Mary and Irish jokes that brought him so much joy. We all made sure he accomplished having 50 years of perfect attendance by joining together to be his honor guard at his funeral.
Lastly, Reverend Ralph Barlow, loved sharing words of wisdom and his favorite poems when he was able to attend our meetings over the past few years. Over the years he performed a baptism of a fellow Rotarian while standing waist deep in the ocean off the shores of Barrington, and during the past few years helped Wendy Marcus with her final paper for her classwork.
As we enter the new year, let us gather together to learn about the club’s activities, interesting speakers, and other avenues of community service. By joining a committee, you can share your ideas and talents to an existing or new project.
Bring a guest so they can learn about how together we make a difference in others lives through “Service above Self.”

Pete Brock introduced our guest speaker, Nathan Beauvais C.F.P from Sowa Financial. A Hendricken and Rhode Island College graduate, Nathan is the host of Money Talks a radio talk show on WPRO.
