Speaker

Our guest speakers Madalyn Ciampi, Executive Director, and Rachel Palumbo, Development Director joined us from Providence Promise, a community organization that applies a data-driven approach to promote college accessibility for low-income students and those from other marginalized communities.
PVD Promise is a parent-driven partnership that supports Providence Public School and Charter School students to continue their education after high-school. PVD Promise promotes high educational aspirations and more equitable opportunities for Providence Public School and Charter School students by advocating for college savings accounts and family engagement, increasing financial literacy, and reducing the financial burden of higher education.
PVD Promise’s vision is increasing the K-12 and postsecondary success of Providence Public School and Charter School students and to help ensure a brighter future for the students, their families, and the community.
Madalyn and Rachel discussed PVD Promise’s data-driven approach, an overview of their mission, measurable impact, and how YOU can help!
Impact is significant. Students with active College Savings Accounts are:
- 40% less likely to average 10 or more absences within a year.
- 53% more likely to meet expectations in reading.
- 41% more likely to meet expectations in math.

Rachel highlighted the experiences of Jonathan Martinez, a program graduate who is studying Chemical Engineering at URI. Jonathan is currently participating in a study abroad program in Japan. Jonathan’s brother is also a program participant, continuing the legacy.
