INSPIRATION
Ralph Barlow’s Inspiration was delivered by Walter Cotter because Ralph had a fall a couple of weeks ago and was unable to be with us:

“We despair about the chaos in Washington------the political upheavals, the loss of a sense of direction. We can, though, take hope in the people of this country. Carl Sandburg strikes just the right note when he says in his book The People, Yes:

“Hope is a tattered flag and a dream out of time.
Hope is a heartspun word, the rainbow, the shadblow in white.
The evening star inviolable over the coal mines.
The shimmer of northern lights across a bitter winter night……
Hope is an echo, hope ties itself yonder, yonder.”

ANNOUNCEMENTS, Etc.

WHAT WINNING MEANS
IN FRIAR LAND

Guest speaker Kevin Kurbec, Director of Operations for Providence College Basketball, described the three top goals of the Friars’ hoop program:
  1. To have 100% graduation with a college degree
  2. To be the most respected program in the country (on the court and off the court),
  3. To compete and win championships.
Kevin, a 2002 graduate of PC, enters his 9th season under coach Ed Cooley. His primary duties are monitoring players’ academic progress, organizing on-campus recruiting, serving as a liaison between Friar programs and community, organizing team travel and overseeing day to day operations. He is also the Director of the PC Summer Basketball season.

They are focusing on a strong team this year with more seasoned players. There are five seniors on the team with some sophomores with more experience. They had their first exhibition game against Stoneham College (Ed Cooley’s alma mater). They have another pre-season game playing Purdue. Their goal is also to keep their players healthy and be competitive!
