Bob Murphy talked about his admiration for baseball hero Jackie Robinson. He shared one of Jackie’s quotes: “Life is not a spectator sport. If you’re going to spend your life in the grandstand, just watching what goes on, in my opinion you’re wasting your life.”

Mary Brewster from the membership committee spoke about a proposed Virtual Paint Party event for late March, early April. There will be live instruction with art supplies mailed to everyone prior to the event. The cost is $35-$40 with a minimum of 12. There are 7 signed up so far. Contact Mary if you are interested in joining this event.
Holly Applegate announced next week’s speaker recommended by Art Norwalk: Susanna Loeb, director of The Annenburg Institute for School Reform at Brown University. She will be speaking about the effects of the pandemic on students.

Guest speaker Michael Delaney is the director of Photography and Graphics at the Providence Journal. He is a graduate of Providence College. He has worked at the Journal as an editor and manager for 34 years.
Among other accomplishments, he directed the Journal's year-long photo coverage of the Station Fire in 2003, for which the Journal was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in Public Service.
Michael talked about the three volumes published of Rhode Island Memories using selected photos from a collection of over a million photos stored in Providence Journals archives. The most recent book features photos from the 1960’s through the 1990’s. He showed pictures from notable events, such as the blizzard of 1978, the America’s Cup races, and a picture of Claus von Bulow happily leaving the courthouse with his girlfriend after being acquitted in his second trial.
