Guest Speaker

Chuck Wilson - Founder & Executive Director, Even Field, Inc.

Even Field is an education nonprofit organization with the mission to cultivate character, integrity, and principled leadership in sports and life.  The critical message is “The Way You Win Matters”.

The highlights of Chuck Wilson’s inspiring conversation are:

Coaches and parents are key to building positive experiences in sports for kids.

The way you come across as a coach makes a big difference impacting players and how they play the game.

Kids drop out of sports for the following reasons:
  • Not having fun
  • Not seeing improvement in their ability
  • Too much emphasis on “winning.”
Winning over development is the wrong coaching approach.

Help kids learn to challenge themselves. Coaches and parents are key influencers and support.

Help kids maximize their ability in everything they do to offset the fear of failure.

Learn and practice collaboration with teammates. Everyone on the team pulling together for the final outcome.

In summary, Chuck quoted respected coach John Wooden’s mantra to his teams
  • Preparation,
  • practice,
  • and positive mindset.
