INSPIRATION
Holly Applegate inspired the meeting with a beautiful rendition of "Amazing Grace" which she dedicated to Reverend Ralph Barlow, as it his favorite hymn.   
 
ANNOUNCEMENTS, Etc.
Bill Di Biasio gave an update on Shelter Box, which was on the ground in Indonesia within 24 hours of the earthquake and tsunami that made over 100,000 people homeless. Rotary was the only NGO allowed in by the Indonesian government . In Haiti Shelter Boxes are still being used by people made homeless by an earthquake 10 years ago and more are needed for victims of the recent quake.
 
Liz Messier reported on plans for the October 20th Street Painting Festival. About $14,000 in pledges and sponsorships received to date. More volunteers are needed to assist at the festival, particularly to help in closing down - email Anthony Landi to volunteer. Squares for painting teams are still available.
 
Randy Dittmar advised he is organizing this year's Rotary bowling league, which will be held for 20 weeks at the Town Hall Bowling Lanes on Mondays at 5:30 PM.

  • Nuts & Bolts of Rotary leader training Nov. 10 at White's in Westport
  • Foundation Dinner Nov. 15 in Wareham

Art Norwalk reported that Susan Blicker and Don Saracen are both in improving health.

CLEAN WATER INITIATIVE IN HAITI
Art Norwalk gave a slide show on the club website, which explains our community service activities, promotes our major events, lists our speakers and sets forth membership information. In the passwords-protected Member Area there’s a directory of all Providence Rotarians with phone and email contact info.
 
Art followed the website presentation with a video from the 2018 Rotary International Convention in Toronto featuring Jeremy Hurst, Past District Governor of District 7020 in the Carribean area. Mr. Hurst described a new Rotary collaboration with the government of Haiti and several other organizations to assure clean water and sanitation to all the people of Haiti by 2030. Kris David updated the presentation with information that the initiative is trying to regroup after an unexpected government shakeup.
