Gala Recap
Nearly 220 people attended the annual Legends for Literacy gala on Thursday October 16th. Led by co-chair Pete Brock, legends from the sports world and local children's book authors filled the Marriott ballroom for an evening of inspiration, good food, and bidding on auction items to raise funds for our Literacy Initiative.
Honorary Chair Peter Loescher gave a rousing acceptance speech for the lifetime achievement award, with many in attendance learning more about what our Rotary Club does.
R. W. (Bob) Alley and spouse/partner, Zöe Alley, gave an impassioned keynote presentation about their work and the importance to them that literacy is for our students in Providence.
The Richard A. Kaplan award recipient, Harry Kizirian school librarian, Linda Dieffenbach, shared great stories about how the Rotary's programs have helped the students in the school.
A surprise Kaplan Award was also given to co-chair Susan Kearney-Kaplan for her dedication to the event over the past seven years, a well deserved honor.
We are still calculating the proceeds from the event, but I want to thank all the Rotarians that worked religiously over the past year to make this another successful venture.
