President Steve Hug called the meeting to order at noon.
Pledge
Jim Gilcreast led the Pledge of Allegiance
Inspiration
Past President Holly Applegate inspired us with “Labor Day” history which was introduced to this country by the labor movement in the late 19th century and became a federal holiday in 1894. The day was intended as a day of rest for workers and a day of respect for workers. She gave several examples of why working matters.
Induction of New Member
President Steve inducted new member, Lew Hassell, of Amica Insurance Co, who was pinned by his mentor, member Lisa Hill. Lew mentioned his 30+ years of service at Amica and his admiration of Rotary's commitment to helping good causes.
Happy Bucks
$2 - Jim Gilcreast gave to welcome Lew Hassell as a new member and for the continuing history that the Providence Rotary has had with Amica Insurance Company.
$30 - Bill Applegate gave 23 for the holiday in Scotland hiking the West Highland Way and then time with family, 3 for Art Norwalk for doing the Rotary newsletter, and 4 for Holly letting him go on the hike and then joining him for the rest of the vacation.
Hands on Project
The remainder of the meeting was dedicated to our Good Works Committee service project. All members in attendance assisted the Committee Chair, Mary Brewster, organizing and filling 26 boxes of classroom school supplies which were then delivered to the Harry Kizirian Elementary School for grades K-6.
