INSPIRATION
Anthony Landi felt the following quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson encapsulates the spirit of all we do as Rotarians.

To laugh often and much; To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; To earn the approbation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; To appreciate beauty; To find the best in others; To give of one's self; to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition; to have played and laughed with enthusiasm and sung with exultation; to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived -- this is to have succeeded."

LEGENDS FOR LITERACY GALA:
TAKE TWO
Legends for Literacy Gala Chair Pete announced we are going to plan and prepare for an in person event for Oct 26th. We anticipate and hope things will look a lot better by that date. We feel more comfortable planning an in-person event vs. Zoom.

George Babcock gave us an update on our Literacy Initiative plan 2021. We have distributed just under $65,000. Distributed: Middle Schools $37,000 and to the Elementary School $27,790. Operations. Serving 5,600 students.

Liz on the Program Committee we now know from past experiences what worked or didn’t and how to improve. We have reserved the largest ballroom. The count was 240 for our last gala. How many at a table could be 8 vs 10.. Looking at options on how the legends can be presented. Possibly on stage. They are considering honoring a Middle School Teacher with the Richard Kaplan award.

Don in regards to Sponsorship to quote Pete “keep in mind why we are doing this” The bottom line is that our Sponsors are the bedrock financially of supporting our Literacy Initiative efforts. We have an active committee and the luxury of time.

Jim on the Auction committee. The idea is looking for substantial items and experiences are always winners. Anyone has a worthwhile experience to donate we are interested. Ideally 6 to 8 live auction items. The count down will be part of the program. In regards to bidders give an example of what their dollars could buy.
