INSPIRATION by Karen Mueller
“The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make some difference that you have lived and lived well; happiness will follow.”

PRESERVING AND PROMOTING
A MILE OF HISTORY
Vincent Buonanno, president of the Mile of History Association, explained that MoHA works with the Providence Preservation Society, the City of Providence, and others to revitalize area infrastructure and take physical care of the street, to ensure that properties in the area are in compliance with zoning and housing standards and Historic District Commission guidelines, and to preserve and promote the historic character of the area for both residents and visitors.
25,000 visitors come down Benefit Street each year -- which doesn’t include students! – and MoHA’s goal is to tell the story of the street, from the country’s earliest colleges, libraries, and medical schools, to the slave trade, to the industrial revolution, to the diverse communities, like the Cape Verdean community, that have made Benefit Street their home.
Vin took meeting attendees on a virtual tour of Benefit Street. You can explore some of the street’s noteworthy buildings and institutions
