Speaker
Guillaume Bagal, Chairman of Youth Pride Inc. He’s an executive of United National foods and board member of Amos House.
Youth Pride Inc. is an organization dedicated to advocating for the needs of LGBTQ+ youth under 23 throughout Rhode Island. In addition to support groups, YPI has a food pantry, clothes closet, and school supplies available to anyone who needs it. Youth Pride Inc. also offers case management and one-to-one counseling services free of charge, no insurance or referral necessary.
He mentioned that 40% of homeless youth in the country are LGBTQ yet they only make up 9% of the population. As an organization they like many others have been forced by the pandemic to shift to online platforms. Abuse to LGBTQ has risen during Covid. He stated RI is slow passing legislation. Their members have concerns with getting and keeping jobs, marriage and everyday life. Youth Pride, Inc. primarily serves as a drop-in safe space on Westminster St.
He ended with the Invictus poem. Explaining its meaning as unconquerable holding on to one’s own dignity.
